The 2012 Wisconsin Envirothon was recently held at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station. Many great teams competed but two teams stood out among the rest and took home the title of the winners of the Envirothon; Luxemburg-Casco High School’s “Team A” and Island City Research Academy’s “Team A”.
“Teams spent the day outdoors taking on field challenges in Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soils and Land Use, and Wildlife. In addition, teams studied the use of low impact development (LID) technology to reduce nonpoint source pollution and prepared presentations regarding potential management plans for developing on an island in Green Bay.” EE in Wisconsin

WAEE reached out to the winners to learn a bit more about the students that were a part of these incredible teams. I am incredibly impressed with the environmental stewardship activities that they kids are already involved in!
Aaron Johnson is a senior and a four time Envirothon veteran. He has been an active member of the L-C Conservation Club for four years and has also been on the L-C Ocean Bowl team for four years. He has been a very active participant in the Lower Fox River Watershed Research Project, (LFRWRP), a research project involving twelve area high schools and UWGB. These students monitor tributaries of the Fox River and perform research on water chemistries, stream flow, macro-invertebrates, amphibians, and birds. Aaron has become enough of an expert on stream ecology that he now leads field trips for local area elementary school students.
Christy Vincent is a senior and a two time Envirothon veteran. She has been an active member of the L-C Conservation Club for four years and has participated in prairie planting and invasive species removal projects in area parks. She is an active member of the performing arts at L-C having been in forensics, one act play, and chorus for the past four years. She has used her speaking skills at banquets for local environmental groups. She also has been an active member of the LFRWRP and will be helping Aaron lead field trips this spring.
Nicole Gregorich is a senior and a two time Envirothon veteran. She is the class valedictorian. She is an active member of the L-C performing arts and has been in forensics, one act play, and chorus for four years. This year she played the lead role in the musical “Annie”. Nicole is president of the L-C Conservation Club.
Riley Hall is a junior and a two time Envirothon veteran. Riley has been an active member of the L-C Conservation Club and has participated in invasive species removal, prairie plantings, and trail building projects in area parks. He has been an active member of the LFRWRP and will be leading field trips with Aaron and Christie this spring.
