WAEE Awards – David Engleson WAEE Award

In an effort to convince you all that there are amazing educators around you that deserve to be recognized with one of the environmental education awards offered by WAEE I am going to highlight each award and share some thoughts from a past recipient.

So up first is the David Engleson WAEE Award –

Renamed in 2007 to recognize David Engleson (pictured right)

For individuals, agencies, and organizations making significant contributions to the field of environmental education as exemplified by David Engleson; founding member of WAEE, author, advocate, teacher, and environmental education leader across the state and nation.
Recognition: Paid registration to the WAEE fall conference, engraved plaque, acknowledgement in the WAEE newsletter and on the WAEE website and formal recognition at the WAEE Fall Conference banquet.

Janet Brandt, a Board member for the WI Environmental Education Foundation, won this award in 2011. Here are some thoughts on winning the award from Janet.

I was so honored to receive the David Engleson award for my work with the Wisconsin Environmental Education Foundation.  The honor was made even more meaningful by the opportunity to actually meet David at the awards banquet and learn about his amazing contributions to environmental education.  Working toward ambitious goals for environmental literacy and education for sustainability can be an individually challenging and often frustrating experience but being recognized for the work is certainly a motivator!”
